Next annual conference at Shreveport, LA
VEFFA Conference Planning Committee (CPC) is excited to announce that the next VEF annual conference will be hosted by Louisiana State University at Shreveport (LSUS), LA, from Jan 3 to Jan 5 of 2012. The annual conference is a chance for long-time-no-see friends to reunite and spend time together after a long year of studying and hard working. It is a chance for graduating fellows to connect with representatives from industry and academia, and an opportunity to showcase the best of VEFFA, both scientifically and artistically.
It is very likely that we will stay at Sam’s Town Hotel. We have visited the conference site during our meeting with VEF and LSUS, and as you can see from the gallery, the facility at LSUS and the hotel are just perfect.
Sam’s Town is right next to a big river, which might remind fellows from Hanoi of the Red River. The view from the hotel room is just beautiful. There are free cabs to the downtown area, and the attendants are very friendly. The old lady who is the cab driver, told me she is looking forward to see us in Jan. And best of all, well technically this depends on your luck, the hotel has a casino right down in the first floor. So those of you who do not know what to spend the giftcard from VEF on, like me, will have one less problem to worry about.
Shreveport is not a big town, but the I will not say the same thing about its taste and appreciation for arts. Along the wall leading out from the airport are beautiful pictures and photographs, those that will surely catch your attention. And when we meet with the chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport (LSUHSC), Dr. Robert A. Barish, we were treated with his warm welcome and his amazing collection of photographs which he took many years ago with his film camera.
All in all, I am sure we will have an enjoyable conference ahead, and I would end with a simple quote “it looks good, it feels good, it is good”.
