Previous Teams
Below are members of previous VEFFA executive teams. Board of Representative (BoR) 2010 is the last BoR of VEFFA. At our 2017 annual conference, VEFFA members voted to restructure the leadership team into two separate bodies: Board of Advisers and Board of Executives. The Executive Team (ExT or BoE) is almost equivalent in function to previous Board of Representatives. ExT members serve for one year while BoA serves on a 1 year rolling basis and act as a connection between executive teams.

Hoa Phan
Hoa Phan is conducting her PhD in Pharmacology at Michigan State University. Hoa enjoys exploring new things in every aspects of her life. Contributing to meaningful projects to build a strong VEFFA community and creating a funny interconnective platform to connect us all are what she dedicates for as member of ExT this year.
Ninh H. Do
Born in a small village in the South of Vietnam and then having the chances to experience different academic environments, Ninh understand the importance of a good educational system. Therefore, he aspires to apply his knowledge to improve the education system at Vietnam. Joining VEFFA as a member in executive team, Ninh wants to initiate new projects that serve for the professional and personal developments of VEFFA members, most importantly, to make VEFFA become a happy family, a strong community.
Nu Tang
Nu Tang, VEF 2013. PhD student at Genetics Genomics and Development, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University. I always think that I had a big fortunate cause I was bornin family that my parents are aware of how important education brings to us so, I got a chance to study at International University with English as medium of instruction in my undergraduate. Especially, when coming Cornell University, exposing with great opportunities to study with expert professors, work with high modern tech….Thus, I’m strong desire to help Vietnamese students have a chance like me..That is the reason why I decided to be VEFFA members and I’m strongly captivated by VEFFA scholarship. I wanna help Vietnam younger generations to havemore opportunities…
My favorite motto is “together we can change the world.”
Hung Viet Nguyen
Hung Viet Nguyen is a PhD student in Computer Engineering at Iowa State University. His research interests are Software Evolution and Web Engineering. He holds a BSc degree in Information Technology from the College of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. After graduation, he worked at IBM Vietnam Company Limited as a project assistant for one year.

Hoa Nguyen
Nguyen Thanh Hoa is PhD student in Computer Science in University of Utah. She did her Master Degree in Japan in 2010. Hoa is VEF Fellow Cohort 2011. Her research focuses on Uncertainty Visualization and Flow Visualization. She was chair of leadership session in CPC for VEF 10th annual conference 2013 in Florida. As a member of VEFFA Executive Team this year, Hoa would like to contribute and support more for VEF fellows’ benefits such as sharing experiences and advices.

Hoan Thanh Ngo
Ngô Thanh Hoàn has been a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA since August 2011. Hoan received Bachelor degree in Mechatronics from HCM University of Technology together with a Silver Medal for excellent student in 2006. He then went to Korea Maritime University, Busan, South Korea for a Master’s program in Control and Instrumentation. At the end of year 2008, he returned Vietnam and worked as lecturer at Biomedical Engineering Department of International University, a member of Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City before going to the US. He is interested in studying and developing cutting-edge Biomedical Engineering technologies and contributing to the development of this field in Vietnam. Hoan is the executive director of VEFFA in 2012.

Mai Ngoc Tran
Mai Tran is a Chemistry PhD student at University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City in 2009 and became a faculty there for 6 months until she received the VEF Fellowship in 2010. Joining the VEFFA Executive Team, she wishes to contribute more to the development of VEFFA and VEFFA connection with the society.
Thu Thi Duong
Thu Duong is first year student of PhD program of Biomedical Graduate Studies at School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Her hobbies are singing, dancing, and making new friends. Thu organized a very successful Ao Dai show at the VEF pre-departure orientation for cohort 2011 in Hoi An. She also co-organized the VEFFA Idol at VEF conference 2012. Contributing and developing more interesting activities for VEFFA members is her target this year.
Duyen Thanh Bui
Bui Thanh Duyen is a PhD student in Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Cornell University. She had a Bachelor Degree of Science from Vietnam National University in Hanoi. She wants to contribute to build a solidary, warm and supportive VEFFA.

Tuan Anh Nguyen
Anh Nguyen graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 2007. He worked as a medical project officer at Medecins du Monde – France before coming to US as a VEF fellow of Cohort 2010. He is currently a PhD student in Epidemiology at The University of Texas, School of Public Health. Clinical research is of his great interest.
Hai Nguyen
Hai Nguyen – finished a bachelor of mechanical engineering at Hanoi University of Technology, took a MS degree in Taiwan and currently being a PhD Candidate at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He is interested in root cause diagnosis of manufacturing systems, variation propagation of product dimensions in multistage machining processes, and system dynamics.

After graduation, he worked at IBM Vietnam Company Limited as a project assistant for one year. He currently serves as Finance Coordinator of VEFFA.
Tung Thanh Nguyen
Tung Thanh Nguyen is a PhD candidate at Iowa State University, advised by Dr. Tien N. Nguyen. He holds a BS in Computer Science from Hanoi University of Education, Vietnam. He is interested in Software Engineering and actively publishes on this area. He has been nominated for several prestigious awards, and received Iowa State University Peer Research Award in 2010, ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award in 2009, and Vietnam Education Foundation Fellowship in 2007. He currently serves as Executive Director of VEFFA.
Hung Hoang Manh Vo
Hung Vo is a MS student in Computer Science at Clemson University. He holds a BE in Electronics and Telecommunications from Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Hochiminh City, VN. He is VEF fellow cohort 2010. Currently, Hung Vo severs as IT Coordinator of VEFFA.
