In fact, with an area of 690,000 km2, Texas forms the second-largest US state in size after Alaska. Also, it has historically had a "larger than life" reputation, especially in cowboy films (Opps, I have never seen any cowboy here.... still looking for one...). Bluebonnets typically grow about 0.3 m (1 ft) tall. The flowers deep blue blossoms can be seen from March through May in many areas of Texas.The shape of the petals of the flower resembles the bonnet worn by pioneer women to shield themselves from the sun. |

The Northern Mockingbird is commonly found in North America. Adults are grey on the head and upperparts with pale yellow eyes and a slim black bill with a slight downward curve; the underparts are light. They have a long dark tail with white edges and long dark legs. More interestingly, they have white wing bars and show white wing patches in flight. |

"Texas, Our Texas" is the state song of Texas. It was written in 1924 by Fort Worth natives William J. Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright and selected as the state song by a concurrent resolution of the Texas Legislature in 1929 following a statewide competition.
